Posters of Jillendru Oru Kadhal were seen all over Chennai - these were to announce the commencement of shooting for the movie. What's special about the posters? One set of posters had just ARRs foto - not even fotos of the movie's hero Surya. At a time when ARR's wonderful melodies are wasted by poor publicity, this is a welcome change!

  1. Rags

Rahman definitely looks very smart in the picture... I concur with your statement on his music being wasted...this thing has happened once too many in Hindi.. I am glad that it does not happen in tamil

May be the producers want to remind the public that there exists a film music director called A.R.Rahman who used to give good songs once upon a time?

  1. Harish

    Aravind,
that's coz when the movie was announced, I remember them calling it "Jillendru oru kadhal" :) not ur fault, dont worry!

    the last anon,
or maybe they're trying to say this man's enough to make this film a hit

  1. Aravind

    @ harish:
    thanx for clearing that one!!

And... a good reply to anon!!

  1. paurna

hi just checked out ur blog.man are u fanatic.extremely good.btw how do u find out the intricacies of arr's songs.especially rang de basanti.i have heard it so many times and yet i havent been able to realise the speciality of these songs.

did u learn singing or playing an instrument or is this just by experience of listening songs over the years

  1. Aravind

    @ paurna:
    Thanx for dropping by!
Yeah... i have learnt to play the keyboard.. learnt carnatic for a few years and then western...

Listening to any ARR song using headfones will give u lots of fine intricacies which u will otherwise miss!

  1. Vani Viswanathan

yayy!! i wanna see the poster too!!! so harish madiri i can also put a salaam and go :)

A movie running purely on the strength of arr's songs ..... those are the days I was referring to when I said "producers want to remind the public". As per your wish, if arr's music has the same magic of those days, then how many movies should have run well in recent times, Ah..Aah, Ayuda Ezhuthu/Yuva, Mangal Pandey, Swades, .... the list keeps growing.

The fact is nowadays, arr is woefully out of form/focus. May be he needs a lift from Super Star / Super Director combo?

  1. paurna

First of all Mr.Anonymous why are u scared to reveal ur name.if u want to criticise arr do it but openly.

as for the movies u have mentioned
Ah..Aah, Ayuda Ezhuthu/Yuva, Mangal Pandey, Swades...

lets see in aa.aah the picturisation of songs was pathetic.did u see the way a melodious masterpiece like mayilarage was spoilt by some ridiculous choreography.it was the case with all other movies.

as for AE/Yuva/,Swades,Mangal Pandey,Kisna and Bose-The Forgotten Hero,ARR composed some great songs but these were movies that didn't give enough importance to ARR's songs. Most of the songs came as background scores or just "bit" songs. So u really can't fault him if these movies failed.individually all these albums were huge hits and liked by one and all

  1. Anonymous

If, according to you, these movies have failed because of "other" factors even though arr has done his job well, then you are contradicting Harish who commented that "arr is enough to make the film a hit".

  1. paurna

mr anonymous, when the songs itself arent featured prominently in the movies how can u expect the songs to be a factor.moreover audience expectations have changed.songs are considered a separate enity.songs may be super hit and yet the movie may flop.thats the case with these movies

    Hey guys,

This is way off topic, but does anyone here know will be doing the music for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Saanwaria'? It looks like his other project Bajiroa Mastani which was going to have ARR's music in it has been shelved. So is there a chance that Rahman will be doing the music here?

  1. Aravind

My blog has turned into a discussion forum!!! :)

    @ Paurna:
I dont think there is any use arguing with some one who is as biased as this person and who doesnot want to identify himself/herself!

  1. Aravind

    @ Vani:
    Chennai vandhu irundhaa pathu irukkalaam

  1. Aravind

    @ Kable:
No news about Saanwariya, after the initial announcement.. so no idea who the music dir is.. hoepfully ARR :)

And Baji Rao Mastani -- ARR in his interview said that SLB told ARR that he was still not ready for that movie :(

  1. Anonymous

    Thanks for the info.

Hopefully it is Rahman who does the music, especially since it feels like SLB is one of those directors who brings the best out of people.

If you have a link to that interview please post it.

  1. paurna

ok aravind i won't argue any more.btw i think ARR would most probably be the composer.I feel so bcose ARR has a contract with sony music and with sony pictures producing this movie i think there is a very high probability of arr being the composer

  1. Anonymous

"I dont think there is any use arguing with some one who is as biased as this person" - Calling me as a biased person only reminds me of the proverb "The pot calling the kettle black".

  1. Ram

    anonymous,
It is not that the quality of the music that resulted in the failure of movies like Ah..Aah, Ayuda Ezhuthu/Yuva, Mangal Pandey, Swades. It is the taste of some ppl, the B and C that has changed. Hindi fans luv songs mimicked from English albums only. Tamil fans luv tapaanguthu. This situation has arised because of the gap that ARR has left in the Indian industry, he is the only person who can change this. Reveal ur name buddy no one is gonna find u and kill u for degrading ARR.

  1. Anonymous

If you guys can "invent" so many reasons for the failure of these movies, then what happens to the claim "arr is enough to make a film a hit"?

Dude - I also like rahman's music but I don't go overboard. What I am trying to impress upon you guys is "At present arr is clealry not in form - he has got to do a lot to catch up with his old form". So, putting up arr in posters like this, is too much & I only hope the producer manages to recover his cost of production at least.

  1. Ram

    @anon
I agree that he is not in his old form, but he is not in such a bad state as you claim and you have already gone overboard in the other way dude :), these things were not invented, these are well known facts. There is nothing wrong in saying ARR is enough to make a hit. Look at the overall picture and his past records and dont start criticising him for his 2 or 3 recent failures, wait n watch i ll speak to you when both his movies do well in the box office and audio sales as well , now let us end it here.

  1. Anonymous

I don't get why Rahman has to be commercial to be liked. Personally, I belive the Rahman we hear today is far greater then the Rahman of the past. The movies his music is meant for are not commercial flicks, and neither should his music be that way. The music he makes today (at least for most of his Hindi stuff), is aimed at a higher class of audience and not the regular folks. Leave the "popular music" to the Himeshes and Anu's, and let Rahman keep creating his own magic.

  1. Sandhya Ramachandran

    Hey... naan idhu pakala!!! :(

Anyway... blog-la pottathukku danks! inga salaam pottutene! :D

    Sandhya

Late aa vandhalum thalaivar-a miss pannama, salaam pottadhukku danks!

ARR is so cute that i had used it as my desktop background...Ofcourse he is my Role Model!!! This movie is going to be yet another big hit...

I would suggest ARR not to compose for S.J. Surya Flms...What do you guys think?

  1. Aravind

    @ Madhavan:
If SJS is gonna continue doing what he is doing now, then ARR should stop compsin for him
