Ismail Durbar - the biggest joker around!

It is generally the politicians who say one thing and shamelessly take an opposite stance suddenly. Now, it is Ismail Durbar, the composer of Devdas!

Here are some excerpts from his recent Hindustan Times interview (Thanks to Mr. Gopal, ARRFans for the scan):
"I call him (A.R.Rahman) Guru. He also respects me..."
"I remember he won at two different award functions; he went on to win for Taal and Saathiya. See the humility in him... he called me through lyricist Mehboob and said that I deserved both the awards (for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas). That's why I respect him"
Now for a short flashback! Read what he said in a Rediff interview:
"People have told me my work was better than Rahman's in Kisna. (ARR composed 2 songs and ID composed 8 for Kisna)"

"My work has always been better than his. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was better than Taal. Even Devdas was better than Saathiya.
But it is destiny that he got international fame. Angrezo ne uska haath pakad liya hai toh logo ko lagta hai ke yeh kuch zyada hi hai (Foreigners encouraged him so people think he is very good).
I am not saying this because of jealousy. This is the bitter truth. Whenever my work is good and he takes the awards, I feel bad.
I wonder why people run after name and fame, and not good work. Kyunki hamare yahan bahut kum akal ke log hai (we have very few intelligent people here). We see some foreigners holding someone's hand, and he becomes a big man."

    the worst thing in this world is to compare oneself with another .. i wonder how one can compare himself with another .. well both mean the same ... but the sorry fact is that mr darbar .. has indeed made a durbar ( for guys who dont know DURBAR is a royal court where state matters are discussed ) abt himself not being in league with the maestro .. quite natural to be jealous.. no harm.. the harm is to make a cry and hue like a 2nd grade kid who just lost the first rank and complaining abt the guy who got the first rank ... which is exactly what our no-so-bad music composer has done ... just ignore him and his pathetic statements

    Time n again, there have been such jerks like ID. Remember a very old episode of newstrack (which had come out when the music of gentleman had just come out) where there were many music directors who criticised Rahman as being a one movie wonder or so ...
    they must be eating their words now.
    The thing is that now, we don't even know who those dumbos were. Its so sad ....these folks ....

    Well,
    No doubtedly, he is the best of best music director India has found in the twentieth century but Ismail, is also
    a good director but to compare himself with someone who has given many hit over the years through many Movies and albums is like comparing Elephant and an ant over a "who is big ?" question.
    I have found many Ismail's song as more of Indian than of western which I like very much........But Rahman's work has ranged from very Indian to superb mix of Arabic/Indians/western music and it is Rahman's versatility which has kept him still as the Crowds Fav. When Ismail Darbar could range upto the albums of Rahman ....then maybe he could try comparing himself with Rahman....but what he has done right now, shows that he is jealousy all around and can not withsand a healthy competition

    hi... ismail is not as versatile as AR Rahman but devdas and Hum dil de chuke sanam are really above any of rahman's work... I'm not indian but ismail is the one's who's really doing something to preserve india's musical identity... even if he's a big mouth!

    Ismail Darbar communicates with more clarity in his compositions (HDDCS/Devdas) than AR Rahman. I feel that AR Rahman's songs are blunt at times!
